Animal ID: 50Kenny (male)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kenny is a very nice, well mannered boy. He loves to be with people, and is very attentive to his person. He knows sit and gives paw. He listens well. Just an all around great dog. He also likes to give hugs and kisses, and is very gentle. 79 lbs. 4 years, 6 months. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through ... (Read More)Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Animal ID: PeekaPeeka (female)

American Staffordshire Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Peeka. Peeka is a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier. She was seized by the police as part of a cruelty investigation and we know that the first part of her life probably wasn't great. That does not stop Peeka though. She is probably one of the sweetest dogs we have ever had. She loves every person and just lights up when she sees you. She loves attention and loves to snuggle. Peeka also loves male dogs (she has a huge crush on one of the other dogs in her foster home!). Peeka has a back injury. When she came to us she was barely able to walk at all. After seeing a specialist and putting her on a huge dose of steroids we ... (Read More)have seen incredible improvement and she gets around well. She is no longer on any medication. Her right back leg is very strong but her back left still gives her trouble. She is not in pain but she will always walk funny and slowly-- although the vet expects to see some improvement over time. When she gets excited she tries to run and can go for a short distance. Peeka knuckles under on her left back foot and as a result scratches the top of her paw. So, most of the time when she goes outside she wears a bootie to protect her foot. Peeka is a survivor. She does not look back, only forward and that is what we are doing for her. Its really hard for us to watch this video and to see her walk and sometimes stumble and fall. It does not bother her though. She is not in pain, she just walks funny. She is all ready for her forever home. So, here are her requirements..... Peeka needs a forever family who will be patient and understanding with her. She is unable to jump onto the furniture and needs help getting in and out of the car (but she LOVES to ride). She likes to sleep on her back on her fluffy dog bed and also likes to have a pillow for her head. She does not want much exercise. She likes to go in and out to go potty but otherwise she is happy napping in the sun. Peeka would enjoy living with kids if they could be respectful of her space and would not fall on her or bang into her. We talk a lot about overcoming adversity. Like so many dogs we see who have special needs, the dog overcomes them so much better and easier than the people do. Peeka is a survivor. She deals with it and is just happy to be in a safe, warm home with a comfy bed and plenty to eat. Please SHARE Peeka's story so that we can find her forever home for her. She deserves a future of comfort and spoiling! To apply to adopt Peeka, visit www.adoptapitrescue.org/applications.html Peeka is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and heartworm tested.     I rescued Lexis about 10 years ago. She had a very rough start to life. I have loved her and taken care of her, but am unable to take her where I am moving. She is very loving to humans and is good with the male dog she has been with. Unfortunately, she hasn't proven to be too friendly with other dogs. I am looking for someone who works from home or is retired but still has the energy and strength to deal with a very intelligent, strong, loving dog like Lexis. I need to do something because my options are few. Help!!

Hi! My name is Kahn! I am a year old boxer mix and I weigh 60lbs. I love going on walks and running around the yard. I am looking for a forever home with space to run and play. Although I'm 60 pounds of pure muscle, I sometimes think I'm a lap dog and will want to snuggle right up with you! I am, by far, the best cuddler around and love to give kisses! I would do best with someone that has time to give me a lot of attention, take me out to play, and who is as active as I am. I do well with everyone I've met. Although I haven't spent time with kids, I am a gentle guy and would do just fine. I like large dogs and will need supervised with ... (Read More)smaller dogs. I'm still a puppy and I like to use my paws when I play, my foster mom says it's just because I'm a boxer. I must confess that I'm just a tad bit stubborn. I've learned all of my basic commands and I walk on a leash like a pro, but sometimes I prefer to have a treat before I do them and I LOVE treats! My foster mom says it's just because I'm young and it will take time, so I need my forever person to be patient and willing to keep up on the training. Will you be my person? I am heart worm negative, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, house trained, and know all of my basic commands. Apply to adopt me at halok9behavior.com (Less)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Willow!! This beauty is available for adoption and located in Northeast OH area!!! Willow has had a rough start to her young life. Willow is only around 10 months old and she has been through multiple homes which led to her ending up at a boarding/training facility. Willow was adopted several times as a puppy. She didn't receive much training or guidance which left her an out of control puppy. Willow didn't have any manners, very animal reactive and mouthy. Not a good combination for any family. Willow was intensely trained for 4 weeks so that she would learn to be the best dog possible. Willow learned how to become a great pup while ... (Read More)at training. Her trainer told us that she is one of the sweetest pups he has ever met and truly believes she will make a wonderful addition to a family. Willow is completely leash, e-collar, crate trained and can 'place' like a superstar. She is dog friendly too but we require that Willow goes to a home with no small dogs or cats though. Willow is an active girl that requires daily exercise. She will also need a strong leader that is willing to follow through with the all she has learned at training. She loves to run, play and just be a dog. She would make a great running/hiking partner. A great playmate for kids as well. Willow is currently in a home but only has until April 8th to get a new home or she may end up back in a shelter! Do you have the active home this beautiful gal deserves? If adopted in the Northeast Ohio Cleveland area she even has several sessions left with her trainer and he will work with you to show you the commands she has learned and how she can be a great obedient gal! If you would like more information please email us! Let's help this sweet girl find her people!!!! (Less)
